TIME TO SHOOT EM UP - PARALLAX JOINS THE JOURNEY

Before we get in to the detail, was it just us who found the musical intro to this game a little hypnotic and haunting?

Take a listen in the video below and see what you think.

Anyway, believe it or not, this is our first touch point of what we hope will be many to Sensible Software which is a legendary brand for many reasons.

Parallax was actually Sensible Software's first title and a ground breaker in shoot em ups. You may not have what you have today without it.

Yes indeed! Just like Skool Daze connects to Sandbox games of today like Minecraft, this has a similar influence on this genre.

See, this journey is both educational and enjoyable ;-)

The game was named after its primary graphical feature, parallax scrolling, which gives the illusion of depth to side-scrolling video games.

So when you think you have seen it before, you either have or you hadn't before this little beauty.

Believe or not, the artist Jon Hare was only 19 years old at the time and the game was held in high esteem by many at the time.

Contemporary reviews were positive and highlighted Parallax's combination of shoot 'em up action and adventure-inspired puzzles.

Good old Zzap!64 rated the game 93/100 and called it "a neat mix between shoot em up and an arcade adventure, with a few other things thrown in for good measure" arcadelike graphics present an entertaining and incredibly challenging puzzle.

We loved playing this on our C64 and it is a pleasure to bring you this design as part of the journey as we continue #KeepingTheGameAlive
